Despite the valley’s coolest vintage since 1999, Walla Walla winemaker Holly Turner produced a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon from venerable Seven Hills Vineyard near Milton-Freewater, Ore. Its decadence shows early on via the 18-month barrel program of 100% French oak, most of it new, which produces aromas of black plum, black cherry, vanilla bean, mocha and pencil shavings. There’s tremendous texture to its palate of luscious black cherry and cassis. Richness on the midpalate is built with just enough tannin structure to provide a steady grip. This earned a gold medal at the 2014 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Competition.
