Arbor Crest Wine Cellars 2010 Dionysus, Columbia Valley, $40
The longtime flagship wine for this Spokane icon, it’s a Meritage-style blend named for the Greek god of wine and built upon the shoulders of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) with a pedigree of two blocks at Sagemoor Farm’s Dionysus Vineyard as well as Conner Lee and Klipsun vineyards and Malbec from Wahluke Slope Vineyard. It presents a classic nose of chocolate-covered cherries, molasses and toast. The flavors are plums and sweet blueberries with nice acidity and mild tannins. The van Löben Sels suggest serving this age-worthy red with beef tenderloin marinated in morel red wine reduction sauce. This wine won a silver medal at the 2014 Seattle Wine and Food Experience wine competition.
