Delfino Vineyards 2011 Mezzo Mezzo, Umpqua Valley, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on March 26, 2014
The Delfinos chose to name their estate blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%) as a tribute to the Italian word than can be interpreted to a reference to “half.” Its aromas offer hints of strawberry, Bing cherry and green olive, then the drink delivers a reward of flavors akin to raspberry, pomegranate and cranberry. The reduced tannins, lighter structure and pinch of herbs should pair nicely with Duck Confit, filet mignon wrapped in bacon or lasagna.
