Kaella Winery 2013 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Rosé, Red Mountain, $18
One of Washington’s top vineyards in the state’s warmest appellation helped produce this stunning rosé of Sangiovese. A boutique winery in Woodinville with a total production of 500 cases, they’ve made the chase for delicious rosé a fun priority. It starts with aromas of Jolly Rancher watermelon candy, strawberry, cherry, orange zest and rosewater. The drink is ebullient with delicate flavors of Rainier cherry and white strawberry, which leads to high-acid cranberry and raspberry. While the residual sugar is listed as 1.6%, the skilled presentation of acidity gives this elegance and makes it a good match for patio fare. This won a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Competition.
Rating: Outstanding!
