Hiney Wine 2007 Big Red, Walla Walla Valley, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on April 5, 2014
Best Buy! A whimsical second label for Walla Walla’s Skylite Cellars, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Syrah (34%) and Merlot continues to shine. Acclaimed winemaker Robert Smasne created fascinating aromas of Turkish coffee, black plum, black currant, plum jam, saffron and white pepper. Inside there’s a rich entry of blackberry along with more plum and currants, backed by coffee and chocolate amid a balanced structure of nice acidity and fine-grained tannins. It received a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 900 cases
Alcohol: 13.5%
