Puget Sound winemaker Lloyd Anderson continues his string of success with Rhône varieties, and Syrah in particular, with this version that he approaches with a more sultry style. It starts with aromas of black cherry, dark ripe plum, black licorice and bittersweet chocolate. The drink continues down a seductive path with blackberry, chocolate-covered blueberry and black currant. Sandy tannins and hints of molasses add to the richness and create length. And this received a gold medal — one of two that Anderson earned — at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Competition.
