Delfino Vineyards 2012 Müller-Thurgau, Umpqua Valley, $17
Owner/grower Jim Delfino also has a hand in the winemaking at the winery and vineyard that he and his wife Terri operate near Roseburg, Ore. They’ve produced a dry, low-alochol sipper that can be enjoyed with the fruit and cheese plate that greets guests at their bucolic B&B cottage. While most of the lot with this fascinating German grape — a 19th century cross of Riesling and Madeleine Royale — was handled in stainless steel, a third went into neutral oak barrels. That treatment sets the tone for aromas and flavors of starfruit, muskmelon and horehound, backed by minerality, aspertame and anise. By nature, it’s a low-acid variety, so enjoy with the bottle nicely chilled.
