Barking Frog Winery 2011 Elerding Vineyard Barbera, Washington, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on April 14, 2014
Ron Helbig pours his wines within the former theater in downtown Carlton, Ore., but the casting call for much of his red program goes out to Washington state. This Horse Heaven Hills site helps make for aromas of blackberry syrup, vanilla extract, orange peel, rose hips and coconut as well as they dusty minerality often provided by this AVA. What follows are flavors of purple blackberry, black currant and pomegranate as it showcases the kick-ass acidity that’s the thumbprint of this long-hanging Italian grape. Helbig offers this through his tasting room, winery website and via Amazon.
