By Great Northwest Wine on April 17, 2014
There’s a fascinating assortment of sources in this Merlot-based blend, which was stitched together by Prosser winemaker Jessica Munnell. Desert Wind Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope contributes both Merlot and Cabernet, while McKinley Springs in the Horse Heaven Hills also chipped in with Merlot, but the secret sauce is the Malbec (9%) and Petit Verdot (6%) from Mercer’s acclaimed Spice Cabinet Vineyard. The nose is of blackberry, black currant, tobacco leaf, cedar and sweet toasted oak. Inside are flavors of boysenberry and blueberry that are backed by a structure of plum skin tannins and cranberry acidity, making it easy to enjoy.
