Mercer Estates 2010 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $40
By Great Northwest Wine on April 21, 2014
The Mercers’ stellar Spice Cabinet Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills made significant contributions to this stunning Cab, particularly with Malbec (12%) and Petit Verdot (6%). While there’s no shortage of oak influence with roasted coffee, chocolate and vanilla aromas, there’s more than enough fruit to carry that wardrobe with tones of blackberry pie and cherry. Inside, the palate is luscious as the blackberry and black cherry notes pick up lengthy flavors of black currant and bittersweet chocolate, backed by tannins akin to espresso grounds. Enjoy this now with a rib eye, but when you open this in five years, it will be just as great.
