Ginkgo Forest Winery 2009 Wildwood Blend, Wahluke Slope, $24
By Great Northwest Wine on April 23, 2014
A year ago, Wahluke Slope winemaker Mike Thiede opened a tasting room in Old Town Tacoma, and traffic continues to grow thanks to bottlings such as this Meritage-style blend. His offering of estate Cabernet Sauvignon (36%), Merlot (22%), Malbec (20%), Cabernet Franc (11%) and Petit Verdot develops aromas of black cherry, black currant, toasted black walnut, vanilla, allspice and raspberry tea. Inside, it produces a supple entry of blueberries and plum with moderate tannins, backed with the tobacco leaf notes from the Cab Franc. This earned a silver medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
