Full-time chiropractor/part-time winemaker Brian Petersen doesn’t stray far from the formula for his previous vintage off Elephant Mountain Vineyard (Syrah 72%, Mourvèdre 14%) and Double Canyon (Cabernet Sauvignon 14%). It creates aromas of black cherry, blueberry, fennel, NECCO wafer candy and cracked black pepper. There’s Van cherry, Marionberry and blueberry on the palate, which is bright with acidity. Production was down by about one-third from the 2010 Sophia. It earned a silver medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
