Barking Frog Winery 2011 Elerding Vineyard Sangiovese, Washington, $24
By Great Northwest Wine on May 4, 2014
Carlton, Ore., winemaker Ron Helbig sources his Barbera and Sangiovese from Dr. Elerding’s site in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills. The aromas open with signs of toasted oak as well as nice strawberry, boysenberry and plum skin. A pour delivers flavors of black currant and blackberry with juicy pomegranate. There’s a chalky mouth feel and racy acidity inherent with this grape, backed by a sense of minerality and undercurrent of cherry.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 150 cases
