Palouse Winery 2010 Red Satin Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington, $36
By Great Northwest Wine on May 9, 2014
This Vashon Island winery produced about 40 percent less of this Cab from Dineen Vineyard than it did from the prior vintage, and that’s a shame. Its aromas create thoughts of black plums, dark cherry, brown sugar and complex spices. There’s a boldness to the entry of cassis, plum juice and pomegranate, which leads to a midpalate of allspice and pepper. Fine-grained tannins akin to plum skin and well-handled acidity give this extension. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
