Sovereign Cellars 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on May 9, 2014
Capital city winemaker Dennis Gross, a retired science teacher, continues to use a formula that starts with Kiona Vineyard fruit. Expressive oak accounts for aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, vanilla and toasted filbert skins. The drink shows elegance with black currant and black cherry flavors as the tannin structure slowly builds with food-friendly acidity running right alongside. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
