Agate Creek Cellars 2010 Merlot, Columbia Valley, $24
By Great Northwest Wine on May 10, 2014
Built along Agate Creek Lane in the Chehalis Valley just west of Interstate 5, John Petaja’s winery has produced an array of delicious red wines in recent years, including a stunning red blend that leads with Cabernet Sauvignon. His Merlot comes loaded with aromas of black cherry, red currant, moist earth, fresh-cut cedar and black walnut. It trends a bit darker on the palate with rich black currant and black raspberry flavors, supported by elegant tannins and delicious acidity. It was awarded a silver medal during the 2014 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
