Ever since he began commercial winemaking, Olympia’s Dana Madsen has been using fruit from the vineyards established on Red Mountain by Seth Ryan. That relationship serves him well for this marvelous Cab, which opens with hints of black raspberry, red currant, dark chocolate, black olive, pink peppercorns and cedar frond. The flavors focus on black cherry and black currant as bright acidity stays just ahead of the harmonious fine-grained tannins. A pinch of black pepper adds to the complex finish. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food & Wine Festival Wine Competition, and it is available at wine merchants and fine restaurants throughout the South Puget Sound.

I have the pleasure of living just around the corner….ok a couple of miles….from Madsen Family Cellars. It has been great watching the winery grow while tasting Dana’s outstanding product. When I first visited Madsen’s the wines were pretty darned good and they had only been in production for a couple of years. Now the wines are a definite pleasure and some of the best available. Wine crafting at it’s finest in the hands of a definite talented wine maker. Keep up the great work Dana!
