The VanArnam family in the Rattlesnake Hills near Zillah, Wash., grows cherries as well as estate grapes, and there’s a strong thread of cherry throughout their blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Syrah (33%) and Merlot. Aromas begin with cherry taffy and dried strawberry, then pick up hints of honeydew melon, dried soybean and a whiff of smoke. The palate features cherry, ripe plum and blueberry, backed by a balance of acidity and blueberry tannin, and includes a pinch of sweet herbs.
