Helix by Reininger 2009 Sangiovese, Columbia Valley, $27
By Great Northwest Wine on May 20, 2014
Chuck Reininger produced half as much of Sangiovese from scenic Stillwater Creek Vineyard as the previous vintage, but this already seems to be outshining the 2008. Fruit from the Frenchman Hills site inside only used French barrels offers aromas of black currant, dark cherry and earthiness of black truffle and porcini mushroom. Inside, it’s rich, rounded and delicious with black cherry and dark plum. Fine-grained tannins arrive just in time to provide a savory finish with some oak toast. Enjoy with richly flavored meats and tomato-based dishes.
