John Haw’s winemaking produced award-winning work with Burgundy varieties for Sokol Blosser and put Maryhill Winery on the map prior to taking on Brad Gearhart’s project a few miles east of Maryhill on Washington’s Highway 14. They’ve collaborated on oak-driven Chardonnay that opens with aromas of toast, butterscotch and alyssum blossoms. That profile plays out on the palate with flavors of poached pear, vanilla and butter, but there’s lemony acidity on the midpalate that leads into a finish of butterscotch. It’s a delicious representative of the reserve style. Enjoy with chicken sauteed in olive oil, tossed with pesto and sun-dried tomatoes in pasta.
