Spindrift Cellars 2012 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $22
By Great Northwest Wine on May 22, 2014
These Philomath winemakers reach into five vineyards — Bovine, Croft, Deerhaven, Esterling and Mary’s Peak for this cheery and cherry-themed Pinot Noir, yet another head-turner from Oregon’s rewarding 2012 vintage. Aromas of pie cherry, raspberry, red currant, mocha and white pepper lead into smooth flavors of red currant, Rainier cherry and forest floor. Pomegranate acidity, pleasing tannins and a pinch of herbs combine for a delicious structure and complex finish.
