Heymann Whinery NV Just Peachy, Washington, $16
Despite the playful approach to his winery’s name, Bob Heymann take his nongrape wines very seriously, and his work with coastal cranberries set the standard in Washington. Now, this Chehalis winery has created arguably its best work with peaches, which his wife, Flossie, knows quite well having grown up in the Yakima Valley. Inviting aromas of fresh peaches, apricot fuzz, nectarine skin and vanilla lead into rich, viscous and round flavors of peaches and apricots. The residual sugar sits at 2%, yet the true acidity makes for a delicious and rewarding — rather than cloying — drink. It earned a gold medal at the 2014 Capital Food & Wine Festival Wine Competition.
