Maison de Padgett Winery 2003 McHargue True Friendship Malbec Port-style, Rattlesnake Hills, $24
By Great Northwest Wine on May 31, 2014
Typically, it’s David Padgett behind both the wine and the labels at this Zillah, Wash., winery, but here Andrew Padgett is credited for producing this Port-style sipper from Malbec (92%) and Petit Verdot. There are aromas of dried cherry, raisin, coffee, vanilla, mint and fresh-cut cedar, but the fascinating flavors focus on coffee, chocolate, mint and cherry amid a structure that shows good length and not too much heat.
