Citation 2003 Pinot Noir, Oregon, $64
A true reserve program, winery owner Howard Rossback oversees this project that calls upon his top French oak barrels for 16 months, and he then bottle-aged the wine for seven years prior to release. Those barrels create a mood with chocolate-covered cherries, strawberry and pomegranate, as well as aromas of brown sugar, clove, cinnamon bark, shaved coconut and violets. It’s still a rather muscular Pinot Noir with dark cherries, strawberry and espresso, backed by sturdy acidity, mellow tannins and mocha. This wine received a silver medal at the 2014 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Competition.
