Many of the state’s top vineyards — Bacchus, Dionysus, Klipsun, StoneTree, Pepper Bridge, Seven Hills — factored into this easy-drinking Merlot, and Marty Clubb’s fascinating new estate Ferguson Vineyard near Seven Hills also played a role. Pleasing oak adds the aromas of blackberry, black cherry and dark plum and there’s a match on the palate. Boysenberry acidity and well-managed tannins, the latter not often found in Washington Merlot these days, provide enjoyable length.
