ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Chateau Ste. Michelle’s newest addition to the Eroica family is golden in every way.
Eroica Gold earned a double gold medal at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, a judging in upstate New York that drew more than 3,000 entries from around the world.
Eroica Gold is a sweeter version of the company’s popular Eroica Riesling with a lot more residual sugar but not a lot more sweetness. Eroica Gold, which was introduced last summer, weighs in at 7.54% residual sugar. But thanks to a bright pH of 2.92, the wine tastes merely off-dry.
Eroica is a collaboration between Washington’s oldest winery and Ernst Loosen of Germany’s Mosel Valley. It began with the 1999 vintage and now includes four wines: Riesling, Riesling Gold, Riesling Ice Wine and Single Berry Select.
Chateau Ste. Michelle winemaker Bob Bertheau describes Eroica Gold as “the best of both worlds, the bright natural acidity of our original Eroica with concentrated, ripe fruit flavors and a touch of sweetness.”

Also at the Finger Lakes competition, wines from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and Idaho also won 17 gold medals. Of those, three were Cabernet Sauvignons from three different tiers of Columbia Crest: Reserve, H3 and Grand Estates.
