Horizon’s Edge Winery NV Naked Raspberry Port-style, Rattlesnake Hills, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on June 7, 2014
Yakima Valley winemaker David Padgett creates a variety of fortified wines, and some of those are construct fruits other than grape. This version includes hints of raspberry strawberry, rasins and peach skin, followed by flavors of strawberry, dried peach, more raspberry and vanilla bourbon. There’s a fair bit of alcohol heat and lots of sweetness (15% residual sugar), but it’s got the acidity for balance. This received a silver medal at the Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
Rating: Excellent
