Ponzi Vineyards 2013 Pinot Noir Rosé, Willamette Valley, $20
A growing number in the restaurant trade are promoting pinks made with Pinot Noir as a superior style of dry rosé, and Luisa Ponzi’s work with high-elevation vineyards Dion and Merten supports that argument. Her saignée from top lots of Pinot Noir shows off a lovely light pink color and aromas of dried strawberry, pie cherry, apricot, rose petal and beeswax. Inside, the winemaker’s light hand allows for flavors of dry strawberry lemonade, rhubarb and pomegranate. The structure is incredibly delicate and dry with bright acidity.
