Dusted Valley Vintners 2012 Grenache, Columbia Valley, $39
By Great Northwest Wine on June 10, 2014
One of the Pacific Northwest’s wizards with Rhône varieties, the boys at Dusted Valley keep the focus here on the fruit — Grenache (86%), Syrah (12%) and Petite Sirah from StoneTree, Weinbau and Red Heaven vineyards. The deployment of 100% neutral oak barrels shows off the enticing aromas of strawberry, black currant and red cherry, backed by a bite of black licorice, gaminess and a pinch of sage. On the pour comes a creamy entry of strawberry-rhubarb jam, black cherry and cocoa powder, packed with moderate tannins and laced with raspberry acidity before the creamy finish.
