Scott Greenberg’s 2013 crush began Aug. 26, thanks to a scorching summer on Jim Holmes’ acclaimed Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, and this lot ranks among the first taken last year off Red Mountain. What started at 22 Brix finished at 1.5% residual sugar, and the nose hints at pear, Gala apple, cantaloupe and a dusty country road. On the palate, its entry is akin to some late harvest Pinot Gris, bringing flavors of canned peach and apricot with honeydew melon, yet there’s sweet Meyer lemon acidity and ripe Golden Delicious apple to back it up. Serve well-chilled and it’s a yummy and refreshing summer patio companion. This earned a silver medal at the 2015 Capital Food and Wine Festival Competition.
