Nine Hats 2013 Pinot Gris, Columbia Valley, $12
By Great Northwest Wine on June 26, 2014
Best Buy! Walla Walla winemaker Gilles Nicault doesn’t produce a Pinot Gris under the vaunted Long Shadows Vintners brand, but he does a delicious one behind this label using The Benches Vineyard for their estate program. The dramatic site overlooking the Columbia River — at 1,400 feet elevation in the Horse Heaven Hills — allows him to capture aromas of fresh pear, Golden Delicious apple and kiwi fruit. The drink delivers yummy flavors akin to Pink Lady apple and pear. There’s richness and good acidity throughout, accented by a lingering finish of lemon peel. It is guarded by screwcap.
Rating: Outstanding!
