Three Rivers Winery 2013 Steel Chardonnay, Columbia Valley, $14
By Great Northwest Wine on July 7, 2014
Best Buy! Sagemoor Farms, which is under new ownership, produced all the Chardonnay grapes for this Walla Walla bottling, a blend of Bacchus (24%) and Sagemoor vineyards (19%) along the Columbia River with the bulk of the crop coming from Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope. It spent no time in wood and didn’t undergo malolactic fermentation, which explains the bright nose of cotton candy, Meyer lemon, pear butter, apple sauce and melon. Asian pear and Golden Delicious apple flavors splash around in juicy acidity, with some minerality and pear skin bite in the finish. This received a silver medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
