Twice over the course of two weeks our team tasted Don Redman’s new Syrah, and both times it shined. The Walla Walla airport winemaker captures the gaminess starting in the nose, which includes blackberry, black cherry, black licorice and pepper. There’s more of the cured meat to the mouth feel, along with a steady stream of black plum, black currant and blackberry. Its creaminess also carries flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, black olive and a pinch of mint, yet there’s the critical backing of blueberry acidity. It earned a gold medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
