Mannina Cellars 2012 Cali Red Blend, Walla Walla Valley, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on July 14, 2014
This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (45%) and Sangiovese from winemaker Don Redman’s 28-acre estate Cali Vineyard, a tribute to a grandmother. The nose is reminiscent of a fruit compote with blackberry, blueberry and strawberry with notes of sage, oregano and black olive. Flavors of plums, black cherry and more strawberry are met with moderate tannin, good acidity and a pinch of black pepper. It picked up a silver medal at the Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition, and it ranks among the best values available at the Walla Walla airport complex.
