Claar Cellars 2011 White Bluffs Cab-Merlot, Columbia Valley, $15
Best Buy! The Claar Wine Group in Pasco, Wash., is riding a string of national and regional awards for its Syrah and Ridge Crest brand, and winemaker Joe Hudon’s blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot from the certified Salmon-Safe and L.I.V.E estate site of White Bluffs has produced another winner. Aromas of cinnamon bark, dark chocolate and black licorice are joined by fruity tones of black currant, dark plum and blueberry. The palate builds with bold flavors of plum, black cherry and vanilla, which is tracked by structure of Western serviceberry tannin and pomegranate acidity. It’s built for everyday enjoyment with beef, ribs and burgers. These wines are available in more than 20 states, their Yakima Valley tasting room in Zillah and Amazon.com.
