House Wine 2012 Chardonnay, American, $10
By Great Northwest Wine on July 20, 2014
Best Buy! Walla Walla iconoclast Charles Smith launched The Magnificent Wine Company and its House Wine program in 2004, and it’s become one of Washington’s most recognized labels. Hal Landvoigt now heads it up for Seattle-based Precept, and he created another approachable Chardonnay that starts with aromas of peach, apple, lemon oil, gooseberry, sage and lemongrass and a wisp of smoke. The drink streams out flavors of yellow grapefruit, pear and honeydew melon, backed by minerality, toast and lemon meringue pie filling. Suggested pairings include roasted chicken, grilled vegetables, creamy pasta and even Cajun salmon.
