Ponzi Vineyards 2013 Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, $17
Dick Ponzi began planting Pinot Gris in 1978, so this marks the 35th year that he and his family have worked with this variety, and no winemaker will forget the torrential rains that slowed down what was tracking to be an extremely hot vintage. Nearly a dozen vineyards factor into one of Oregon’s largest bottlings of Pinot Gris, producing aromas of Asian pear, apricot, jasmine and minerality. The drink is clean, bright and refreshing with pear and jasmine flavors, backed by white peach and honeysuckle.
