Brandborg Vineyard & Winery 2012 Ferris Wheel Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir, Elkton, $38
By Great Northwest Wine on July 22, 2014
This weekend, Terry and Sue Brandborg will be pouring their flagship wine at the 28th International Pinot Noir Conference in McMinnville, Ore., and it deserves a spot at any table. The vineyard, planted to a cool site 1,000-feet elevation and 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean, flanks their home four miles west of Elkton. Their use of all French oak — 33% new barrels — makes for a fragrant nose of black cherry, dark strawberry, smoked white pepper and pipe tobacco. Thankfully, there’s a match on the fruity palate. High and balanced tannins, combined with blueberry acidity, make this more appealing with each sip.
