Gifford Hirlinger 2013 Estate Pinot Gris, Walla Walla Valley, $19
By Great Northwest Wine on July 22, 2014
Plantings in the Walla Walla Valley are dominated by red varieties, which makes the Berghan family’s work in their vineyard near the Washington-Oregon border with this white Burgundian grape rather fascinating. Tones of fig, honeydew melon, apricot and oak are presented in a rich style but with enough citrusy acidity for grilled oysters and steamed mussels. This wine received a silver medal in the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
