Gifford Hirlinger 2010 Estate Merlot, Walla Walla Valley, $34
By Great Northwest Wine on July 27, 2014
The Berghan family is into its second decade of winegrowing in the Walla Walla Valley, and winemaker Mike Berghan excels for the third straight vintage with his estate Merlot. Toasted oak, fresh mint, eucalyptus, black cherry and black currant aromas lead to dark and juicy flavors of Bing cherry and blackberry with modest tannins and good length. This earned a silver medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
