Stag Hollow Wines 2010 Dolcetto, Yamhill-Carlton, $19
By Great Northwest Wine on July 27, 2014
Willamette Valley winemaker/grower Mark Huff’s 2 acres of Dolcetto were first planted in 1992, and he’s had growing success with this Italian variety. Aromas of plums, boysenberry and huckleberry cream include rustic notes of dried cherry and cedar with a whiff of sea air. There’s a bold purple fruit approach to the palate with more boysenberry and dried cherry along with red currant acidity. In the background, there’s a rub of thyme and tarragon, which is finished with a pleasing tug of chocolaty tannins. Enjoy with puttanesca or other tomato-based pasta.
