Waterbrook Winery 2013 Sangiovese Rosé, Columbia Valley, $13
Best Buy! Picked during the first two weeks of October, this has been one of the Northwest’s most approachable pinks from Sangiovese since its debut last decade in the striking bowling pin bottle. John Freeman grabs from three Yakima Valley sites — Art den Hoed, Canyon Vineyard Ranch and Oasis Farms — and Wallula in the Horse Heaven Hills for his dry, bright and refreshing rosé. It starts with aromas of dusty strawberry, cranberry, cherry Life Savers candy, peach and fresh marshmallow. The approach is lively with high-toned red fruit flavors such as cranberry, pie cherry, pomegranate and white strawberry. In fitting with Freeman’s style of food-friendly wines, it finished around 0.5% residual sugar, making it ideal with summer salads, seafood off the grill and broasted chicken.
