Latah Creek Wine Cellars 2012 Familigia Vineyards Chardonnay, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, $12
By Great Northwest Wine on August 10, 2014
Best Buy! For two decades, the Conways have produced Chenin Blanc, Riesling and Semillon from this vineyard, but this marks their first with Chardonnay. The partial malolactic fermentation and three months in new French and American oak makes for big aromas of tropical fruit, apple and pear, with a hint of ghee and touch of toast. On the attack, there are flavors of Granny Smith apple, pear and lime, backed by midpalate richness and a good finish of butter with pineapple. Suggested pairings include Ellena Conway’s Alfredo Pasta, which is published in her latest cookbook.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 784 cases
Alcohol: 12.5%
