It must be a tough call for founders Myles Anderson and Gordy Venneri and their winemaker, William vonMetzger, to decide how much of this they sacrifice for their popular Super Tuscan-style Bello Rosso. Their fruit sources here for the program of Grosso and Piccolo clones are Dwelley, Kiona, Sagemoor, Seven Hills, the Zerbas’ Cockburn Ranch and the young Mill Creek plantings at the red-roofed barn, and they create a nose of Rainier cherry, dark strawberry and cocoa powder. The inclusion of Syrah (11%) and Malbec (6%) shows up on the sip which is rich and ripe with raspberries, Chukar Cherries and blueberry, backed by a long drizzle of caramel. It received a silver medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition, and their traditional pairing for their Sangio is risotto, and they offer up their recipe here.
