Chateau Ste. Michelle 2013 Limited Release Midsummer’s White, Columbia Valley, $24
By Great Northwest Wine on August 18, 2014
Bob Bertheau and his white winemaker, Wendy Stuckey, annually create this for their summer concert series, and this blend of Chenin Blanc (59%), Gewürztraminer (24%) and Riesling is a showstopper each day at the Woodinville tasting room. The influence of Gewürz shows immediately in the nose of orange oil, honeydew melon, rosewater and apple blossom. Bright flavors of pear and tangerine get an escort with an early burst of acidity that carries through to a finish of peach. The residual sugar sits just below 1%, which makes for a racy, fruity and refreshing drink.
