Obelisco Estate 2011 Les Gosses Vineyard Syrah, Red Mountain, $40
By Great Northwest Wine on August 29, 2014
Doug Long’s friendship with Columbia Valley grower Dick Shaw led to his partnership in this 30-acre block on Red Mountain, and the resulting wines show remarkable excellence and consistent quality. The complex nose from these fifth-leaf Tablas Creek vines features fruitiness of Marionberry, cherry and purple plum as well as Montreal seasoning, back bacon, cedar and hawthorn leaves in autumn. There’s elegance to the flavors of blackberry and boysenberry, backed by molasses, pleasing acidity and firm tannins.
