Rio Vista Wines 2012 Tempranillo, Lake Chelan, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on September 8, 2014
John Little’s work with this Spanish grape from Summit Vineyards in Manson, Wash., provides yet another reason to take a car, boat or float plane to this picturesque winery along the Columbia River east of Chelan. Alluring aromas of Rainier cherry, cinnamon, cocoa powder, chalkboard dust and fresh-picked herbs ease into a rich entry of black cherry, black currant and blackberry. Its sandy tannin structure drinks shows the balance often found in Cab from Washington, and there’s an enjoyable finish of ripe raspberry and molasses.
