Roller Girl 2013 Pivot Blanc, Columbia Valley, $14
Best Buy! The name of this production by SuLei Cellars in Walla Walla may lead some into believing it’s a Pinot Blanc. While “pivot” refers to a roller derby position and a previous version of this wine blended Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, the 2013 vintage a tasty off-dry Riesling. Aromas feature baked Golden Delicious apple, apple blossom, lemon zest and white pepper, followed by flavors of home-canned pear, more apple and sliced almond. There’s a good punch of gooseberry acidity to keep the sweetness in check, so chill it and kill it. The next home match for for the Walla Walls Sweet Roller Girls is Oct. 18 vs. the Rolling Hills Derby Dames of Pullman.
