Latah Creek Wine Cellars 2012 Hyatt Vineyards Moscato, Rattlesnake Hills, $13
Best Buy! Spokane vintners Mike and Ellena Conway began to appreciate Moscato while the Air Force stationed them in Italy, and they’ve been one of the Pacific Northwest’s leaders with the grape for decades. The previous vintage earned a double gold at the 2013 Great Northwest Wine Competition, and this could be its match, starting with aromas of honeydew melon, lychee and honeysuckle. Flavors of pink grapefruit, sweet pear and lemon meringue pie also pick up hints of Juicy Fruit gum. The residual sugar of 10% strikes a balance with the spritzy tangerine-like acidity. Even the most stern wine judge will be at least tempted to swallow. Enjoy it paired with a lemon bar, but Ellena also provides her recipe for Dutch Apple Pancakes in her latest cookbook. Their wines are available via amazon.com, their own website and their Spokane Valley tasting room.
