Westport Winery 2013 Shorebird Chardonnay, Columbia Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on October 12, 2014
The Roberts family’s relationship with acclaimed winemaker John Bookwalter continues to pay dividends, which includes an introduction to Conner-Lee Vineyard — one of Washington’s top sites for Chardonnay. Handled in a fruit-forward style, the nose comes with hints of fresh pineapple, sliced Gala apple and pear. There’s a tropical entry to the palate with flavors of mango, passionfruit and Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Suggested pairings include pan-fried oysters, and a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Grays Harbor Audubon Society.
